President’s
Message
By
Anita Doupnik, RHIA – GCHIMA President 2004-2005
For those of you that did not
attend the January GCHIMA meeting, it was a very exciting
meeting on many fronts. First of all, it was standing room
only for Karen Youman’ s informative presentation on ICD-10.
Karen did an excellent job letting us know how to begin
preparing for ICD-10 and giving us a glimpse of what to expect
i n the future of HIM Coding. Fortunately, we had enough food
for everyone, but the crowded room reminded us how important
those RSVP’s are (hint-hint). We received approximately 30
RSVP’ s and there were close to 60 in attendance!! The
Program Committee works hard to ensure that everyone is well
fed and that the accommodations are appropriate, so please
remember to RSVP for the upcoming meetings. Next, we had a
unanimous vote for several bylaw revisions as well as an
approval to spend the monies needed for the development of a
GCHIMA website!! This is terribly exciting, as the
E-Committee worked very hard to find the right company to
partner with in this website endeavor. Cybermedia is the
company that was chosen to develop and maintain our website
and we are hoping to introduce you to the owner of Cybermedia
and to share the “look and feel” of our new website at our
March 16 th meeting. Kudo’s goes out to the
E-Committee which is co-chaired by Jan Kinney and Marion
Godwin. They have done an excellent job working with the
GCHIMA Board on this arduous task of selecting a website and
they continue their enthusiasm for the work that still lies
ahead. If you would like to be a part of this exciting
committee, please contact Cathy Minan or myself (our contact
information is listed under “GCHIMA Officers” in this
newsletter).
On a different topic, our
Nominating Committee just counted the final ballots for next
year’s slate of GCHIMA officers and the results are in for the
2005-2006 GCHIMA Officers: My sincere appreciation goes out
to all the nominees for running for offices including Diane
Lerch, Valery McCleary and Katheen Baldwin. Congratulations
to the following newly elected officers for 2005-2006:
President-Elect: Monica Cole
Secretary: Patricia McWhorter
Delegates:
Linda Brewer, Pam
Haines, Lucelly Miller, Michelle Mock, Melissa Myrick,
1st and 2nd
Alternates: Susan Brown and Barb Bermudez
As
outgoing President of GCHIMA, I would like to thank everyone
for the opportunity to serve our association and to work with
the Board and all of the members this past year. Please
consider stepping up and assisting Cathy Minan, President for
2005-2006 and the new GCHIMA Board. There are many tasks that
lie ahead with our new website and many networking
opportunities that exist within our association. I challenge
each of you to devote just a few hours or more to help our
association grow even stronger! I hope to see you all at the
meeting on March 16 th!

E-Taskforce
Anita shared the progress made so far toward the development
of a website. She introduced Janice Kinney and Marion Godwin
who gave a wonderful presentation about the website, the
progress and what to look forward to in the future (if app
roved by a vote). Anita spoke for the board and the
E-taskforce committee explaining the recommendation of Cybermedia as our webmaster, the cost for the initial creation
of the website, the monthly maintenance cost that pertain to
ongoing costs, what will be involved in the Phase I stage and
the fact that this webmaster will virtually maintain the
entire site and leave it maintenance free for GCHIMA, which is
exactly what was desired for our site. A motion was given and
seconded to vote on “ go-ahead” of the expenditure of
development and ongoing maintenance of a GCHIMA website. A
majority vote was taken and unanimously approved.
