GCHIMA Purpose

The purpose of this association shall be to commit to excellence in the management of health information for the benefit of patients and providers.

The Gulf Coast Health Information Management Association is one of the Regional Associations in the state of Florida, referred to as Region V., or GCHIMA.  GCHIMA encompasses Citrus, Dixie, Hillsborough, Levy, Hernando, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Sumter, and Polk Counties and is comprised of over 250 members who are responsible for ensuring high quality and efficiency in health care.

GCHIMA Mission
I. To encourage the highest attainable levels of professional competence in those who manage health records and health information systems.
II. To be a liaison to the state's authoritative body in health records and health information systems and to be an advocate for the professional in governmental, academic, social or business issues that affect the management of health records or health information systems.
III. To promote the professional standing of those who manage health records and health information systems.
IV. To promote a structure that will ensure comprehensive communications between the Gulf Coast Health Information Management Association and the Florida Health Information Management Association regarding issues of mutual concern.
V. To contribute within the scope of the professional to quality and efficiency in health care.

  • Preside over GCHIMA meetings

  • Chairperson, Executive Committee - conduct GCHIMA Executive Board meetings (generally before each membership meeting and other called as needed)

  • Delegate to FHIMA House of Delegates, attends / serves as Delegate at annual state convention

  • Participate in annual FHIMA Leadership meeting

  • Represent overall membership of Region

  • Estimated time required per year for position: 100 hrs

  • Chairperson, Program Committee, responsible for educational programs for GCHIMA meetings
