Position Description:
Polk Community College’s
Health Information
Management Program is
currently seeking a
part-time adjunct
instructor to teach HIM
coding courses at the
Lakeland campus.
Courses include Basic
ICD-9-CM Coding,
Advanced ICD-9-CM
Coding, CPT Coding and
Reimbursement and Coding
Prep Review. Work
requires well-developed
analytical, planning and
communicating skills.
The primary role of this
position is to provide
instruction and
instruction-related
activities designed to
motivate, encourage,
support and enable
students’ success.
Other responsibilities
include:

Plan course
instruction based upon
approved
syllabus/outline
provided, to assure
that course content
and objectives are
met. Distribute a copy
of the module calendar
to all students at
first class meeting.

Cover all material in
depth and scope as
described in syllabus.

Utilize a variety of
teaching styles and
methods to accommodate
diverse learning
styles of students.
-
Design, administer and
grade examinations to
assess achievement of
course objectives as
identified in the
syllabus.
-
Actively work to
maintain retention in
all classes taught
-
Provide the students
with profession “real
world” expertise
-
Be available to advise
students, tutor and
provide other
assistance as needed
Qualifications:
-
Minimum 2-3 years
coding experience
-
Current Registered
Health Information
Technician (RHIT),
Registered Health
Information
Administrator (RHIA),
Certified Coding
Specialist (CCS) or
Certified Coding
Specialist-Physician
(CCS-P) certification
required
-
Availability to teach
classes during evening
or Saturday sessions
-
Teaching experience
preferred, but not
required

OPEN POSITION: CODING
SUPERVISOR
EMPLOYER: ST. PETERSBURG
GENERAL HOSPITAL
The H.I.M. Coding
Supervisor is
responsible for a
variety of functions
that are related to
ethical, complete,
accurate coding and
abstracting of all payor
types medical records.
This position will be
responsible for ensuring
the accuracy and
completeness of coding
for all payors while
adhering to strict
coding protocol provided
by the corporate office.
There are many job
duties that entail the
ability to prioritize
multiple tasks, meet
regulated timeframes for
closing out monthly
coding, and the ability
to communicate with
physicians, other
departments, and
staffing personnel. Some
of the specific job
functions are: Maintains
the Bill 49 GRAND TOTAL
Pending report at
$500,000 every day of
the month with $100,000
or less on the last day
of the month, assures
coding close out
procedures are completed
by the 4th day of each
new month, reports
compilation/writing for
management/physicians/and
other hospital
departments, completes
reporting as mandated by
Division/corporate each
month, codes charts on a
regular basis to
facilitate work flow,
assists H.I.M. Director
by filling in at various
committee meetings,
assures coding staff are
educated regarding
regulatory
changes/updates, and
coordinates coding
educational meetings on
a regular basis
• RHIT, RHIA or CCS
• 3 to 5 years of
inpatient coding
experience in an acute
care facility required.
• 2-3 yrs supervisory
experience
